Duties and Responsibilities
Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail:-
- Supervising collection, analysis and management of agriculture crops data
- Coordinating collection, and packaging of new and existing agricultural technologies
- Promoting agribusiness incubation and market development
- Managing and controlling trans-boundary pests, diseases and invasive species
- Undertaking assessment on crop, food and nutritional security situation
- Promoting climate change adaptation and mitigation and environmental management in agriculture
- Developing proposals for national agricultural programmes and projects
- Collaborating with stakeholders to identify areas of agricultural research
- Promoting access to affordable credit, crop insurance and inputs for agricultural production in collaboration with stakeholders
- Training agricultural stakeholders and preparing reports.
- Providing technical support for compliance with international standards on phytosanitary and food safety
- Packaging of new and existing agricultural technologies
- Mainstreaming of international agreements and protocols in agriculture
- Supervising management and control of trans-boundary pests, diseases and invasive species
- Developing proposals for national agricultural programmes and projects
- Supervising assessment of crop, food and nutritional security situation
- Promoting agribusiness incubation and market development
- Identifying public private partnerships in agricultural investments and initiatives
- Collaborating with stakeholders in the promotion of access to affordable credit, crop insurance and inputs for agricultural crop production
- Updating and maintaining agricultural information database
- Collaborating with stakeholders to identify areas of agricultural research
- Mainstreaming environmental management and climate change adaptation and mitigation actions in agriculture
- Training agricultural stakeholders; and preparing reports.
Requirements for Appointment
- Be a Kenyan citizen
- Served in the grade of Principal Agricultural Officer for a minimum period of three (3) years or have a cumulative relevant and demonstrable experience of at least seven (7) years either from the public or private sector
- Bachelors of Science degree in any of the following disciplines:- Agriculture, Agronomy; Agribusiness Management and Enterprise Development; Agribusiness Management; Agribusiness; Agricultural Economics and Rural Development; Agricultural Extension and Education; Agricultural Marketing; Agricultural Resource Management; Agriculture and Extension; Agriculture and Home Economics; Agriculture and Human Ecology; Agriculture Economics; Crop Protection; Dry-land Resource Management; Dry-land Agriculture and Enterprise Development; Farm Management; Home Economics; Horticulture; Food Science and Technology or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution
- Masters degree in any of the following disciplines:- Agribusiness Management; Agribusiness; Agricultural and Natural Resource Management; Agricultural Education; Agricultural Extension and Education; Agricultural Information and Communication Management; Agricultural Marketing; Agriculture and Applied Economics; Agriculture and Rural Development; Agriculture Economics; Agriculture Extension; Agricultural Studies; Agro-Bio Resource Science and Technology;

- Certificate of membership to a relevant professional body from a recognized institution;

- Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results
