For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:-
- Served for a minimum period of ten (10) years, three (3) of which must have been in the grade of Principal, Social Welfare Officer, CSG 8 and above or in a comparable and relevant position in the wider public service;
- A Bachelors Degree in any of the following disciplines- Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Mental Health, Anthropology, Counseling or other equivalent qualification from a university recognized in Kenya;
- Be fully conversant with government policy on social welfare and rehabilitation; and
- Demonstrated a high degree of professional and administrative capability in the general organization and management of social welfare function and personnel.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Deputy Director Social Welfare will be the head of the division and will be answerable to the Commissioner General of Prisons. Duties and responsibilities at this level will include:-
- Assisting the Commissioner General of Prisons in policy implementation in matters related to rehabilitation programmes;
- Coordinating the formulation, development and implementation of social welfare policies; and
- Managing any donor funded support via the division, prisoners and staff welfare matters in the whole county.
